If there is one scent that carries a thousand memories, it's pumpkin spice. As the cold weather sets in, a pumpkin spice candle is the best way to start feeling and celebrating all the wonderful things that winter brings.
Here's what you'll need for this candle recipe:
- 8 oz candle holder
- cooking pot
- 2 cups soy wax shavings
- candle wick
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp cardamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 3 crushed cloves
- 10 drops vanilla essential oil
Begin with a pot of water on the stove top. Turn it to medium low, do NOT let it boil.
Pour the wax shavings into the candle holder and place the holder in the pot of water. Make sure the water is not going to flow into the candle holder.
As the wax begins to melt it will become more dense, leaving space the top of the candle holder. Add small amounts of wax shavings until the candle holder is filled 1 / 2 inch below the rim with melted wax.
Lastly, stir in the spices and essential oil. Allow the aroma to set for five minutes.
Once the spices have been added and allowed to set, remove the pot of water from the stove top and the candle holder from the pot.
To add the wick, allow the wax to set for five minutes after being removed from the stove top. Once the wax has begun to set, place the wick in the middle of the candle. To secure it from shifting, add a small piece of tape around the wick, connecting to the base of the holder.
After a couple of hours have passed by, the wax will have hardened. Next, simply remove the tape and trim the wick. You will want to leave about half an inch of wick from the top of the wax.
A tip I will add, since it is a homemade candle with soy wax, you might experience what is called "tunneling", where the wax only melts in the middle of the candle. The best way to prevent this is by allowing your candle to burn for long periods of time, allowing the entire top layer of wax to melt, which helps it harden evenly as well.
